a bassist, AJ LaTrace as a rhythm guitarist and Michael DelPrincipe as a drummer. The band then broke up. A few months later they reformed and headed into the studio and recorded their self-titled debut EP, The Academy (2004). Peter Wentz of Fall Out Boy heard it and recommended the group to his label. The band headed to Florida to record their Fueled by Ramen debut, Almost Here, which came out after some lineup changes in 2005. Following this, the band embarked on their first headlining tour alongside Plain White T's, Days Away and June. While touring as a main act on the 2006 Warped Tour, the band began the process of writing songs for their second album, Santi, which was released on the Fueled by Ramen label in April 2007. It spawned two hit single "We've Got A Big Mess On Our Hands," but The Academy Is...had anything but. They were selected by Blender magazine as one of 25 reasons to love 2007. The group's follow-up album, Fast Times at Barrington High, was released in August 2008, and garnered the group even greater popularity when one of its singles—"About a Girl" was played on The Hills television series.
