The Cheetah Girls music biography continued...
The Cheetah Girls' Disney television movie, based on a bestselling series of young adult books of the same name by Deborah Gregory, was debuted in August 2003. The girl group in the television movie consisted of Raven-Symoné as Galleria Garibaldi, Adrienne Bailon as Chanel Simmons, Sabrina Bryan as Dorinda Thomas and Kiely Williams as Aquanetta Walker. The movie was such a big success, with DVD sales reaching double-platinum status, that it yielded a soundtrack, and the 2005 Christmas-themed album Cheetah-licious Christmas. The holiday album included classic Christmas songs, as well as several original songs, one of which was co-written by all three girls. The album peaked at number 5 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. It was followed by The Cheetah Girls 2 movie and soundtrack, which was released in 2006, and was an equally huge success.
In 2006, the Cheetah Girls also left their fictional roots behind and became a real touring act, hitting the road with Vanessa Hudgens of Disney TV's other hit, High School Musical. The group also prepared to record their debut album, which was originally titled Who We Are, and was set to be released in June 2007, but was postponed to September 2007 and called TCG. The girls began filming their third Cheetah Girls movie, entitled The Cheetah Girls: One World, in January 2008. It was the only movie to not feature Raven-Symone and premiered in August 22 with its soundtrack following soon after. Six million viewers tuned into the movie and drove the soundtrack Platinum, establishing the Cheetah Girls as a Disney phenomenon and a young group making great strides toward attracting a teen, as well as tween audience.
