The Platters Biography |
The Platters, a band from the rock and roll era, was formed in Los Angeles in 1953. Not until meeting with Buck Ram under Federal Records did The Platters find success. He made changes such as bringing in lead vocalist Tony Williams and another vocalist Zola Taylor.
The first album Only You (And You Alone) contained the single Only You which was their first big Top Ten hit. The second album, The Great Pretender was the bands biggest R&B hit and became their first number one hit. They were the first rock and roll band to have a Top Ten album in America.

ere were many changes made within the band. The most successful combination was Tony Williams, David Lynch, Paul Robi, Herb Reed, and Zola Taylor. In 1990, the Platters joined the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
