rising from the dead on the third day following his crucifixion, was originally formed by vocalist Mac Powell and acoustic guitarist Mark Lee. The duo added bassist Tai Anderson and drummer David Carr from another local band, and recorded some demos. Third Day's live shows gradually built a loyal fan base, and just after lead guitarist Brad Avery joined, the band signed to Gray Dot Records, an independent label and came out with their self-titled debut in 1996. A modest success, the album attracted the attention of Reunion Records, which signed the group to a multi-year deal and re-released their debut album with great success; Third Day was nominated for the Dove Award for New Artist of the Year, and the video of "Consuming Fire" won a Billboard Award for Best Christian video. Conspiracy No. 5 appeared a year later was nominated for a Grammy and won Dove Awards for Rock Album of the Year and Rock Song of the Year ("Alien").
By 2004, Third Day had won two Grammys, collaborated on the soundtrack for Mel Gibson's film, The Passion of the Christ, played at the Republican National Convention and had been featured on the show 60 Minutes. Their next album, Wherever You Are, debuted on the Billboard 200 at #8. It also won the band their third Grammy. They have followed it with the holiday album, Christmas Offerings in 2006, and with a compilation of their hits titled Chronology in 2007. In the meantime, Third Day songs like "Innocent," "Blind" and "I Will Hold My Head High" continue to reference the redemptive experience of the Christian faith that's formed the basis for Third Days' career while their willingness to tackle other themes like risk, loneliness and struggle bring even more fans into their fold. Devoted to the Lord and Influenced by Southern rock legends like Lynyrd Skynyrd and other artists such as U2 and Rich Mullins, Third Day seems poised to convert all Christian music lovers into fervent fans.
