t of the label's Forbidden Paradise series. In the mid-1990s, he started to produce trance, which led to his breakthrough in 1995 when he started building mixed compilations, something nobody else did at that time. In late 1997, he started Black Hole Recordings as a private label for his productions and mixes which became the birthplace for both his Space Age and revered Magik series. After a period of relentless touring, Tiesto scored a record deal in the United States and released Summerbreeze, a mix album that showcased his remix of Delerium's "Silence," featuring Sarah McLachlan. The tune was a smash on both sides of the Atlantic and established Tiesto as a major star in the dance world—one who could pack stadiums as well as dance floors.
In 2001, Tiesto released In My Memory (Nettwerk), his first album to mix original compositions-turned club anthems ("Flight 643") with more commercial tunes. This was followed, in April 2002 by the release of the third installment of his “hypnotically elegant,” Ibiza-influenced mix compilation entitled In Search of Sunrise. His 2004 album Parade of the Athletes was the soundtrack to the opening ceremony of that year's Olympics in Athens, Greece.. Elements of Life from 2007 featured a guest appearance from BT along with numerous guest vocalists. The album was so well-received critically and commercially that in 2008 it garnered a Grammy nomination. From humble beginnings in a small European town, Tiesto has made his mark on the international dance community.
