Tiffany music biography continued...
her career singing country western, but soon switched over to the pop side after a second place finish on Ed McMahon's Star Search in 1985. In 1986, she signed with manager George Tobin who was granted total control of the young minor's career. A recording contract with MCA followed in 1987, and the release of Tiffany's self-titled debut album in 1987. Promoted by touring shopping malls across America, the album soon shot to the top of the charts assisted by the #1 hit, "I Think We're Alone Now," a cover of a of the Tommy James & the Shondells hit. Her ballad "Could've Been" also shot to the #1 spot of the Billboard charts in February 1988. Her modified cover of "I Saw Him Standing There" and "Feelings of Forever" also saw chart success from the over 4.1 million selling debut, which made Tiffany the youngest female artist to top the Billboard charts with a debut album. At the height of her success, Tiffany had to endure a legal battle with manager Tobin and her parents over control of her career, but in late 1988, Tiffany released her second album, Hold An Old Friend's Hand. It did not do as well as her first album, but did boast the tune "All This Time," which made it into the Top Ten and helped the album go platinum, further cementing Tiffany's fame.
As musical tastes changed in the 90s and fans turned to hip hop and urban music, Tiffany's popularity began to wane. She made an abortive comeback attempt, but gained more notoriety by posing nude in Playboy magazine in 2002. She didn't really step back into the spotlight musically until 2005's album Dust Off And Dance, which yielded Eurodance and Hi-NRG style songs like "Ride It", "Fly", "Be With U Tonite", "Na Na Na", and "Artificial Girlfriend," charting on listener sponsored radio stations. More recently, Tiffany signed a record deal with 10 Spot Records, a new division of Water Music Records Group, which is distributed by Universal Music Group. She released a new album in June 2007, entitled Just Me, proving that she is committed to finding a long-term place in the industry.
