Tim McGraw music biography continued...
"I Like It, I Love It", and "Live Like You Were Dying", he has sold over 25 million albums. Born Samuel Timothy McGraw in Delhi, Louisiana on May 1, 1967, he spent most of his childhood in the small town of Start raised by his mother and step-father. His estranged birth father was the famous relief pitcher Tug McGraw. Tim's passion for music developed while he attended Northeast Louisiana University on a baseball scholarship. There he learned how to play guitar and would perform in public for tips. He dropped out of school in 1989 and moved to Nashville to focus on a music career. Playing the club scene, he eventually landed a contract with Curb Records.
McGraw's self-titled debut was released in 1993 featuring the moderate hits "Welcome to the Club", "Memory Lane", and "Two Steppin Mind" which placed near the bottom of the US Country chart. His sophomore album, Not a Moment Too Soon appeared the following year. Although the lead single "Indian Outlaw" sparked some controversy as many critics believed the song patronized Native Americans, it managed to place in the Top Ten of the US Country chart. The second single, "Don't Take the Girl" became Tim's breakthrough hit peaking at number one. "Down on the Farm" reached the number two spot while the title track became McGraw's second number one single. The album placed first in the US Billboard 200 selling over 5 million copies. All I Want emerged in 1995 premiering at number one on the country charts. The album spawned three Top Five hits and the two number one singles "I Like It, I Love It" and "She Never Lets It Go to Her Heart". The release of the album was followed by an extensive tour in which Faith Hill was the supporting act. The two later married on October 6, 1996 and have since given birth to three daughters.
His fourth album Everywhere featured the smash duet with Faith Hill "It's Your Love" which peaked at number one on the country charts and reached the Top Ten on the Billboard Hot 100. The subsequent singles, "Everywhere", "Where the Green Grass Grows", "One of These Days", "For a Little While", and "Just to See You Smile" all placed in the top spots of the country charts. The album achieved sales of 4 million and earned the Country Music Association award for Album of the Year in 1997. Faith and Tim scored a second hit duet with "Just to Hear You Say You Love Me" off of Hill's 1998 album. The following year, A Place in the Sun was issued immediately topping the pop and country charts with the hits "Please Remember Me" featuring Patty Loveless, "Something Like That", "My Best Friend", and "My Next Thirty Years". Following his first Greatest Hits album in 2000, Tim released Set This Circus Down which included the number one hits "Grown Men Don't Cry", "Angry All the Time", "The Cowboy in Me", and "Unbroken". He then issued Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors in 2002, an album recorded with his tour band as opposed to using session musicians. The hits continued with the release of Live Like You Were Dying in 2004 spawning three number ones, "Watch the Wind Blow By", "Live Like You Were Dying", and "Back When". That same year, he experienced a crossover hit with "Over and Over", the duet with rapper Nelly. A second greatest hits album appeared in 2005 and McGraw is expected to issue a brand new record in November 2006.
