Timbaland Biography |
The trademark creations of major Hip Hop/R&B producer Timbaland have been dominating the charts since the late 1990s. His signature production style has created smash hits for artists, Missy Elliott, Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, Aaliyah, Ginuwine, Jay-Z, and Ludacris, to name a few. Also a rapper, he is a member of the hip hop duo Timbaland & Magoo, best known for their singles “Up Jumps Da Boogie” and “Clock Strikes”. im. His talent was later discovered by Devante Swing who signed Timbaland to do production work as Da Bassment Crew for artists on his Swing Mob label. In 1995, Timbaland and other Swing Mob affiliates Elliott, Playa, Magoo, and Ginuwine departed from the label to work on their individual projects while maintaining a close working relationship.
In 1996, Ginuwine released his debut album Ginuwine…The Bachelor which was exclusively produced by Timbaland. The album as well as the lead single “Pony” became huge commercial hits. Aaliyah’s breakthrough album One in a Million followed amplifying Timbaland’s credibility as a producer with the hit title track and “If Your Girl Only Knew”. His signature production sound began appearing on most hit albums during the end of the 1990s. As the millennium approached, the established producer began working with big time artist Jay-Z producing the tracks “Jigga What, Jigga Who” and “Big Pimpin’” and in 2000 with Nas on “You Won’t See Me Tonight”, Snoop’s “Snoop Dogg (What’s My Name, Pt.2)” and Ludacris’ “Rollout (My Business)”. In 2001 he was highly credited on Missy Elliott’s Miss E…So Addictive album and would continue to contribute on her later work. Also that year, new artist Bubba Sparxxx’s debut album, Dark Days, Bright Nights, was the first released on Timbaland’s Beat Club Records label. The hits persisted when he collaborated with Scott Storch on Justin Timberlake’s solo debut Justified producing the smash hit “Cry Me a River”.
Timbaland launched his new label Mosley Music Group under Interscope Records in 2006. Nelly Furtado, one of the featured artists on the label issued her Loose album in June 2006 debuting at number one owing much of its success to the smash single “Promiscuous”. Justin Timberlake’s sophomore album Future Sex/Love Sounds features Timbaland’s producing expertise as well as guest vocals. His recent success has heightened his luminary status which will continue to expand as he finds new artists to produce.
