Tina Turner Biography |
When it comes to injecting energy and passion into a song, nobody does it like Tina Turner, one of R&B music’s greatest divas. Born Anna Mae Bullock in Nutbush, Tennessee, on November 26, 1939, Turner was raised in St. Louis, where she hung around the music clubs as a youngster and was subsequently discovered by Ike Turner. Ike and Tina married and had several hits together including “Proud Mary” and “River Deep, Mountain High.” Ultimately, however, their partnership disintegrated under the weight of Ike’s drug and spousal abuse.

First saw her live in concert in AK NZ in the mid 80s. Awesome show, danced non stop throughout along with the 10s that attended.
Then recently in Perth Australia in the late 90s.

Tina Turner Biography (Continued) |
1976, playing at small clubs until Olivia Newton-John’s manager took her own and secured more high profile gigs with Rod Stewart and other rockers. Tina’s big break came with the European release of her cover of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" in 1983. The record hit #6 in the UK chart and Capitol Records was soon demanding a full album. 'Private Dancer' was hurriedly produced in England in two weeks flat. The next single - "What's Love Got To Do With It?" - became Tina's first #1 single the following year and the album hung around the Top 10 for months, spawning two further hit Tina Turner songs. At the 1985 Grammy Awards, her remarkable comeback was recognized with nominations in the rock, R&B and pop categories and she was rewarded with four trophies.
The following decades aw Tina’s successes multiply. She had a starring role in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) (her admitted dream is to cross over to acting); duets with Bryan Adams, David Bowie, Eric Clapton, and Mick Jagger, amongst others; several sold-out world tours; a string of hit albums and awards; a best-selling autobiography, 'I, Tina'; and the blockbuster biopic What's Love Got to Do with It (1993) chronicling her life. After her 'Twenty Four Seven Millennium Tour' in 2000, Tina announced she would retire from the concert stage, but continue to record and play live on a smaller scale. Though she may be slowing down some now, Tina Turner will always be known as the performer who electrifies audiences by always giving her all.
