Tinchy Stryder music biography continued...
Kwasi Danquah on June 10, 1987, Stryder first gained fame performing on pirate radio stations in his early teens, including Deja Vu and Rinse. He became prominent in the underground scene after constantly going on radio and performing live shows with Wiley and Dizzee Rascal, who were prominent figures in grime at the time. Stryder separated himself from the pack in 2003, when he won 'best newcomer' at the Sidewinder awards. In 2006, after appearing on the tracks of several grime artists, he released two solo mixtapes-- "I'm Back U Know" and "Lost and Found"-- which became sensations, and earned him a contract with the independent label, Takeover Entertainment. That same year, the song "Underground" (from the Lost and Found mixtape) become Stryder's first solo hit, and he was featured prominently on the Ruff Sqwad album Guns & Roses, Vol. 2, released on Ruff Sqwad Recordings. Stryder's debut album Star In the Hood was released in August 2007 on Takeover Entertainment. A single "Breakaway" was released from the album, along with "Something About Your Smile", and "Mainstream Money" as a bonus track. The nine-track EP Cloud 9 followed in 2008, and Stryder reached to the top of the U.K. charts with his inaugural 2009 single, "Take Me Back," establishing himself as one of the leading new artists of his day.
