Trace Adkins music biography continued...

his hit "(This Ain't) No Thinkin' Thing". More recent memorable singles include "Rough and Ready", "Hot Mama", and "Arlington".

Tracy Darrell Adkins was born in Sarepta, Louisiana on January 13, 1962. Living in a small town, he began playing the guitar at a young age. He later studied music at Louisiana Tech, however landed a job working at an oil rig after graduation. He tragically severed part of his left finger in an industrial accident. After a few years in the workforce, he decided to pursue his love for music and joined gospel quartet The New Commitments. He departed from the band in the early 1990s to focus on a solo career while playing in honkey tonk bars. He spent several years performing small gigs until he made the big decision to move to Nashville in the hopes of landing a record deal. He was immediately signed to Capitol Records.

His debut album, Dreamin' Out Loud, was released in 1996 and produced major hit on the country charts "(This Ain't) No Thinkin' Thing" which peaked at number one. The first two singles off of the album "Every Light in the House" and "I Left Something Turned on at Home" reached number three and two respectively. His follow up album, Big Time generated a Tope Five hit with "The rest of Mine" however was not nearly as successful as his debut. More was issued in 1999 failing once again to achieve the praise attained with Dreamin' Out Loud, yet still managing to place in the country Top Ten. Following the release of his fourth album Chrome in 2001, Adkins was arrested for drunk driving in July and later pled guilty. In 2003, he released a greatest hits collection.

Comin' On Strong in 2002 was moderately successful due to the hits "Hot Mama" and "Rough and Ready". The 2005 album Songs About Me received much attention with its video for the single "Honkey Tonk Badonkadonk" which fuses the crunk hip hop culture with pop country to demonstrate its mainstream realization. Trace's most recent album is Dangerous Man released in 2006.
