Trick Daddy music biography continued...
in 1996 when he performed as one of the primary rappers on "Scarred," the leadoff track from the former 2 Live Crew leader Uncle Luke's album. The song became a hit in the Miami clubs and led Trick Daddy to a record deal with Slip-N-Slide Records. His debut effort, Based on a True Story was released in late 1997 to some fanfare in Miami, but didn't make an impression in other regions. With the release of www.thug.com (1998), that all changed with the breakout hit "Nanna Nigga," a club banger that featured a then unknown Trina, and peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot Rap Singles chart. Following this success, Atlantic Records signed Trick Daddy to the label in 2000 and released Book of Thugs: Chapter AK Verse 47 led by the rowdy club single "Shut Up." Trick Daddy broke out nationally in 2001 with his sophomore album for Atlantic Thugs Are Us, which contained the hit single "I'm a Thug" and propelled Trick Daddy alongside Ludacris and Mystikal as one of the few nationally championed Dirty South rappers. Suddenly, one of the most thuggish men in rap was welcomed onto the playlist of every urban radio station in America, not to mention MTV.
In 2002, Trick Daddy came out his fifth album in six years, Thug Holiday, and its lead single, "In da Wind," which critics called his most inventive work yet. Thug Matrimony: Married to the Streets dropped two years later, yielding the hit "Let's Go," a Lil Jon production noteworthy for its heavy sampling of Ozzy Osbourne's heavy metal classic "Crazy Train." Back By Thug Demand followed in 2006, with the singles "Bet That" and "Tuck Ya Ice," harkening back to Trick's streetwise days. Following Back By Thug Demand, Trick Daddy appeared on several singles by DJ Khaled: "Born-N-Raised" in 2006 from Listennn... the Album in 2006, "I'm So Hood" from We the Best, and "Out Here Grindin'" from We Global in 2008, all among numerous other rappers. Trick Daddy continues to record and perform, remaining true to thugs everywhere.
