Trisha Yearwood music biography continued...
Monticello, Georgia, Yearwood performed as a high school student, and when it was time to go to college, she transferred in her second year to a Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee to study music and work as a receptionist at MTM Records. That led to gigs as a backup vocalist for several up-and-coming country stars, including Garth Brooks, who used her on his 1989 debut album and its huge follow-up No Fences. A showcase performance in 1990 landed Yearwood her own record deal with MCA. Yearwood's self-titled debut album was released in 1991, and the lead single, "She's in Love With the Boy," catapulted to the top of the country charts, making her an instant star. Three more singles from the record all went Top Ten, and Yearwood toured as Brooks' opening act, gaining a great deal of exposure. As a result, she became the first female country singer ever to sell a million copies of her debut album, and was named Top New Vocalist by the Academy of Country Music. Yearwood secured success again with the 1992 release of Hearts in Armor, which featured the hit singles "Wrong Side of Memphis," "Woman Walk the Line," and a duet with Don Henley titled "Walkaway Joe." Yearwood wouldn't become a superstar, however, until 1997, with the release of Songbook: A Collection of Hits, which brought two Grammy Awards: one for her duet with Garth Brooks called "In Another's Eyes," and one for the single "How Do I Live," as well as Academy of Country Music awards for Top Female Vocalist in both 1997 and 1998. Her ascendancy was now complete.
In 1999, Yearwood divorced for the second time. She turned back to music in 2000, coming out with Real Live Woman, which featured the popular tracks "I'm Still Alive," "Try Me Again," and the Bruce Springsteen cover "Sad Eyes." Yearwood followed this personal album with 2001's love-themed "Inside Out"—a record that featured the hit "I Would've Loved You Anyway." She released "Jasper County" in 2005, and that same year, married friend and mentor Garth Brooks, bringing her journey in country music full circle.
