Tyrese is also well-known for his starring roles in the films Baby Boy, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Flight of the Phoenix, Four Brothers, Annapolis, and Waist Deep. Born Tyrese Darnell Gibson on December 30, 1978 in Los Angeles, California, his talent was discovered at the age of fourteen when he won a local talent show. He later sought work as a model for Tommy Hilfiger, and in 1997 appeared in a Coca-Cola television commercial singing the catchphrase "Always Coca-Cola". He later landed a job as an MTV VJ hosting the Jams Countdown.

Tyrese's professional music career was launched in 1998 with the release of his eponymous album which triggered sales of over four million worldwide. His sophomore album 2000 Watts, named after his organization which funds inner city children, peaked at number ten on the Billboard 200 chart and at number four on the R&B/Hip hop register. I Wanna Go There appeared in 2003 spawning the hit single "How You Gonna Act Like That" and placing second on the R&B/Hip hop album chart. The singer's next album, Alter Ego, is to be released in 2006 and will feature him rapping as "Black Ty" on several of the tracks. He is also currently filming the movie Transformers, which will be released in July 2007.
