She began performing at an early age, appearing in musicals starting at age 8, by taking over for a friend who couldn't go to the audition, and moved to Los Angeles after winning an audition for a commercial. She landed roles on shows such as Quintuplets, Cover Me, and Still Standing, then made her feature debut in Thirteen as Noel and appeared in the 2004 film Thunderbirds as Tintin. Hudgens' big break came in January 2006, when she played the shy, intelligent student Gabriella Montez on the Disney Channel movie High School Musical. The popularity of the show made Hudgens a household name to teens throughout North America, spawned a hit soundtrack, a worldwide concert tour, a show at Walt Disney World, and even a book series that helped Hudgens land in Forbes magazine's list of top-earning stars under 21.


As the result of her role in High School Musical, Hudgens scored several lucrative commercial deals for such brands as Old Navy and Blockbuster. She reprised her role in High School Musical 2 and was signed to star in the third installment when a scandal involving nude photos surfaced, temporarily derailing her, but not for long. She is now back on track to be in High School Musical 3. In addition to acting, Hudgens released her debut album, entitled V, in early September 2006. She is now back in the studio at work on her sophomore album, entitled Identified. After finishing the work in the studio she'll be heading to Austin, Texas to film there the teen comedy movie "Will", then in April, 2008 the shoot for the new HSM movie will begin, and a couple of months later she'll start the new album promotion. If life seems like a whirlwind to Hudgens, it's because her fans simply can't get enough of her!
