Whigfield music biography continued...
in her brother's music group as a teen. Seeking more musical opportunities, she moved to Spain, took her stage name from that of her piano teacher, and recorded her first single, "Saturday Night," under the wing of producer Larry Pignagnolio. The tune became a summer smash hit of 1994, thanks to extensive play in the clubs of the Mediterranean and the fact that it had a dance which many found easy to learn. The song had such great legs that Whigfield became the first ever non-UK or American artist to debut at number one in her first week in the UK Singles Chart. The tune performed well in several other European countries as well, and Whigfield's self-titled debut album was a sensation across Europe. Whigfield issued her second album, predictably titled Whigfield II, in late 1997; another parade of international hits followed, including "Gimme Gimme," "Baby Boy," "No Tears to Cry," and "Givin' All My Love to You." Whigfield III followed in late 2000, producing hits in a cover of the Ronettes' "Be My Baby," the Spanish smash "Doo Whop," and "Much More." Though tainted by unfounded allegations of lip synching, Whigfield proved by this time to be a musical survivor.
In October 2007 Whigfield released All In One, a greatest hits album which contained past hits blended with contemporary beats. The album included updated versions of "Think Of You", "Gotta Getcha", "Sexy Eyes", "Givin All My Love", "No Tears To Cry", "Was A Time", "Close To You", "Out Of Sight", "Another Day", and of course her biggest hit "Saturday Night". The album also included two brand new songs titled "Right in the Night" and "Rainbow." Whigfield continues to record and be a presence in clubs throughout Europe, where throngs of club goers can't get enough of her music.
