White Zombie music biography continued...

Haverhill, Massachusetts in 1985. Rob moved to New York City in the mid 80s, when he teamed with then girlfriend and keyboardist Sean Yseult and what would be an ever-changing cast of band members to form the outfit. White Zombie's first release was an EP titled Gods on Voodoo Moon and was recorded in October 1985. It was released under the band's own label Silent Explosion, under which they would release most of their early work. In 1986, the band made their live performance debut at the club CBGB in New York City. White Zombie released their second EP Pig Heaven that year. After a third EP, Psycho-Head Blowout, the band released their first LP Soul-Crusher, which was their first release to feature sound clips from horror movies in the songs, a practice that would continue for the remainder of the band's time together. Their second LP, Make Them Die Slowly, released on Caroline Records, moved away from noise rock and toward heavy metal and was the band's biggest success to that time. It attracted the attention of major labels and White Zombie, at last recognized for their groundbreaking approach to metal, ultimately went with Geffen.

In March 1992, White Zombie released La Sexorcisto: Devil Music, Vol. 1, the album which launched their mainstream career. White Zombie began a two-and-a-half-year-long tour for the album soon after its release, during which the band gained a large cult following. A video for one of the tunes off the album-- "Thunder Kiss '65"-- was put into heavy rotation on MTV and the popular TV show Beavis and Butthead began reviewing other music videos, earning the band even greater recognition. By the end of 1994 Rob and Sean had split up and Sexorcisto had gone platinum. Further line-up changes ensued, but in 1995 White Zombie came out with their sophomore effort-- Astro Creep: 2000, which yielded the hit "More Human than Human." In 1996, an album of remixes was released under the title Supersexy Swingin' Sounds, but White Zombie had seen their heyday. The band split up in 1998, so that members could pursue other musical interests, but not before they had made a lasting mark on the heavy metal genre.
