Carrie Underwood music biography continued...
singing sensation from an early age when she sang in various youth and church groups. She went onto attend college, however, and was about to take her first job after graduating at a television station, when her friends prevailed upon her to try out for American Idol. Underwood made it through three rounds of auditions (the last one with Simon, Randy and Paula) and landed that golden ticket to Hollywood and took her first ever plane flight to California. With her powerful voice and charisma, Underwood made it through several final rounds on Idol and in May 2005 she beat out Bo Bice to become America's new American Idol.
After the Idol win, Underwood signed to 19 Recordings/Arista Records and released the single "Inside Your Heaven", which debuted as the best selling song in the nation with sales of 170,000. She broke Billboard chart history as the first country music artist ever to debut at #1 on the Hot 100. Underwood's "Inside Your Heaven" also became the first song from a country artist to go to #1 on the Hot 100 since Lonestar's "Amazed" did so in 2000. However, the single did not get much air play. Following her win on Idol, she also performed on the American Idol tour and signed advertising deals for Hershey's chocolate and Skechers shoes. She released the single "Jesus, Take the Wheel" to country radio later that year; her debut album Some Hearts followed in November, less than six months following her Idol win.
Some Heart turned out to be the gigantic success that Underwood probably dreamed about back in Checotah. It led to the #1. Carrie Underwood songs "Jesus, Take the Wheel," "Don't Forget to Remember Me" and "Before He Cheats." As the result of the album, Underwood became the first American Idol winner to sweep up honors at all three major music awards in the same awards show season (06-07), including one American Music Award, five Billboard Music Awards, and two Grammy Awards (including Best New Artist). We can only expect more great things from her in the future.
