as a pop superstar. The daughter of country musician turned actor Billy Rae Cyrus, Miley Cyrus (named for her "smiley" demeanor), has taken the world by storm with her TV show, but she was preparing for it practically from birth, taking parts as extras in her Dad's shows ever since she could remember. Cyrus was eleven years old when she originally auditioned for Disney for the lead as well as the "best friend" roles on Hannah Montana; Disney Channel executives thought she was "too small", but her persistence and determination impressed them, so Disney called her back for further auditions when she turned 12. According to Disney Channel Executive Vice President Gary Marsh, Cyrus was chosen for Hannah Montana because the Tennessee native's energetic and lively performance made them see that she was a person who "loves every minute of life."
In June 2006, Cyrus' performance as Hannah Montana at Typhoon Lagoon in Disney World was recorded for the Disney Channel. Cyrus spent the rest of 2006 opening for The Cheetah Girls on 20 dates of their 39-city tour. Cyrus also appeared in the Disney Channel Hannah Montana promotion, "Hannah Montana's Backstage Secrets", in which she portrays Hannah Montana in a fictional interview set in the show's canon. Walt Disney Records released a Hannah Montana soundtrack in October 2006, which contained eight Hannah Montana songs that Cyrus performed in character. Cyrus also signed a four-album major record deal with Hollywood Records for her own albums. Eight months after the release of the first soundtrack, Cyrus released a double album, Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus. The first disc served as the second Hannah Montana soundtrack, while the second disc was Cyrus' debut album as herself. She co-wrote credited as "Destiny Hope Cyrus", eight of the ten songs.
When she's not performing, Miley hangs out with her five siblings, Christopher, Braison Chance, Brandi, Trace and Noah Lindsey in their Los Angeles home. In her spare time, she likes to go shopping for shoes and enjoys dancing, singing and writing music. She calls her job, however, her number one hobby. Because she loves it so much, it's just pure fun.
Hannah Montana received many awards including The Kids' Choice Award for Favorite TV Actress in 2007, two Teen Choice Awards for Comedy Actress Choice and Comedy Show Choice. In 2006 she was nominated for the Breakout Star Teen Choice Award and in 2007 for the Spectacular Children's TV Program Emmy award.
