The Flintstones soundtrack is the culmination of a long-running creative enterprise. Premiering in September 1960, The Flintstones cartoon TV series was the first, and the longest running, animated situation comedy shown in prime-time television. Produced by Hanna-Barbera (Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera), the story revolved around Fred and Wilma Flintstone and their best friends, Barney and Betty Rubble. Much of its charm was that although they lived in the prehistoric city of Bedrock, they faced the problems of contemporary working-class people. Though it has ended its primetime run, the Flintstones still appears in syndication today.

In 1994, Universal Pictures, Hanna-Barbera Productions, and Amblin Entertainment teamed up for a live-action motion picture recreating all the quirks of stone-age living that made the original Flintstones cartoon TV series so fun. The Flintstones movie starred John Goodman as Fred Flintstone and Rick Moranis as Barney Rubble. It begins with Fred and Barney arriving home just as Wilma discovers that the Flintstones' life savings has been withdrawn. The highly entertaining plot unfolds from there.

The Flintstones soundtrack is a mix of popular music from the early 90s, including alternative rock, bubble gum pop, rap, early nu-metal, and glam rock. Most of the songs on the Flintstones movie soundtrack are thematically tied to the movie, and they feature dialogue from the actual Flintstones cartoon series. The B-52’s, temporarily rechristened the BC-52’s, handle the quirky and fun “(Meet) The Flintstones” theme song, as well as “The Bedrock Twitch,” an infectious, danceable hit. The rest of the Flintstones songs are fun and light from the reggae-based “Prehistoric Daze” to the hip hop inspired “Bedrock Steady.”
