The Miami Vice soundtrack is just one element of the Miami Vice franchise, which began with the hit Miami Vice television series the 1980s. Billed as “MTV cops,” the series aired on NBC for five seasons and starred Don Johnson as James "Sonny" Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs, two Miami police detectives working undercover. It includes dance-floor friendly excursions like "One of These Mornings" (a collaboration between Moby and Patti Labelle) and a house remix of Nina Simone’s "Sinnerman" by Felix da Housecat. Then there are the more atmospheric offerings, such as instrumentals from the Scottish band Mogwai and the last four tracks, which suggest the kind of pastel colored ambiance Mann is so good at creating.
