The Oliver and Company soundtrack accompanies the 27th animated film in the Disney canon. The Oliver and Company Disney film was originally released in November 1988 and was re-released in March 1996. Oliver and Company was the first Disney feature to make heavy use of computer animation—in fact, an entire computer animation department was created for it. The effects were used for making the skyscrapers, the cars, trains, Fagin's scooter-cart and the climactic subway chase. Oliver and Company was also the first Disney animated musical released since the Fox and the Hound in 1981,

The plot of Oliver and Company is loosely based on the Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist, which has been adapted many other times for the screen. In this version, set in New York City, Oliver is a cat and Fagin's gang is composed of dogs, including a canine called Dodger. In the Disney film, the voice of Oliver is played by Joey Lawrence. Dodger is voiced by Billy Joel and Fagin by Dom DeLuise.

The Oliver and Company soundtrack features a number of top pop entertainers, including Bette Midler singing “Perfect Isn’t Easy,” Billy Joel with “Why Should I Worry” and Huey Louis performing “One Upon a Time in New York City.” The latter song was written by Howard Ashman, who would go on to contribute to many animated Disney films.
