The Rocky soundtrack was a monumental achievement and part of a great film’s legend. Rocky the 1976 movie was a sleeper hit which was produced for $1.2 million and went on to earn an incredible $117 million in the United States. Written and directed by Sylvester Stallone, who also stars in the picture, the Rocky film launched the actor’s career and would spawn six sequels.

The Rocky movie tells the rags-to-riches story of Rocky Balboa, an uneducated but good-hearted debt collector/club boxer in Philadelphia who lives the American Dream when, as a publicity stunt, he is invited to take on the world heavyweight champion in title bout. Also starring in Rocky are Talia Shire as Adrian, Burt Young as Adrian's brother Paulie, Burgess Meredith as Mickey Goldmill, Rocky's trainer, and Carl Weathers as the champion, Apollo Creed.
The Rocky soundtrack was composed by legendary film composer Bill Conti. The main Rocky theme song, "Gonna Fly Now" made it to number one on the Billboard Magazine’s Hot 100 list for one week (from July 2 to July 8, 1977) and the American Film Institute placed it 58th on its AFI's 100 Years... 100 Songs. The complete soundtrack was re-released in 1988 by EMI on CD and cassette. Bill Conti was also the composer for Rocky II, III and V, and the sixth installment.
