The Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines soundtrack goes with the third installment of the hugely popular science fiction movie series, Terminator. The Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines film was released in the United States in July 2003 and like The Terminator (1984) and Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. A fourth installment to the Terminator movie series is slated for 2008 or 2009, but Schwarzenegger, who is now the Governor of California, will not appear in it.

The Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines story happens after the failure of Skynet to kill Sarah Connor before her son is born, and to kill John himself as a child. In the third installment, Skynet sends back another advanced Terminator model, the T-X, in a last attempt before Judgment Day to wipe out as many resistance officers as possible, including John and his future wife, Kate. Again, a less advanced Terminator cyborg model is sent back to protect them.
The score of the Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines soundtrack is composed by the Italian-born Marco Beltrami, who cut his teeth on B-grade science fiction and horror films. His percussion-infused, snarling orchestral fury evokes a mechanized world gone mad.

The Terminator soundtrack also contains two acoustic ballads as a counterpoint--"Open to Me" and "I Told You" by Dillon Dixon and Mia Julia respectively.
