In the 1956 classic musical, The King and I movie is one of the first stories of its kind – a story in which two cultures from opposite ends of the world are introduced to one another in a way in which you learn the ability for people of different cultures to not only co-exist, but, to help one another in ways only they know how. The King and I movie takes place in Thailand, and yes, the movie does feature a very heavy Thai flavor as the second most spoken language in the movie outside of English – is Thai.

Ms. Anna Leonowens (Deborah Kerr) and her young son Louis (Rex Thompson) travel to Thailand to work with the King of Siam (Thailand)’s children to teach them the English language. The King is played by long-time Hollywood actor Yul Brynner. Leonowens grows disenchanted when the house she was promised was never delivered. Soon after, however, she hears word of the King’s declining health. The King’s son was one of her favorite pupils, and as such, she would stay behind to teach Prince Chulalongkom to be the next great leader of Siam.
